 Club3D Radeon HD 6870 X2 review

Club3D Radeon HD 6870 X2

Ever since the release of the Barts series GPUs and the Radeon HD 6800 series cards that derived from it, performance was really nice for the money you need to put down. And heck can you believe that in October 2010 this generation was released, that's ten months already.

Meanwhile a lot has happened, the release of the series 6900 for example, and that Radeon HD 6990 with two GPUs. It's exactly in that sentiment that we test the product as is today, a dual-GPU Barts based graphics card. AMD had nothing to do with this design, this is a custom design product, that we can trace back all the way towards TUL actually. So we find that very innovative and interesting all by itself.

Club3D already started selling these puppies, here are the primary specifications.

  • GPU Chipset: Barts XT
  • GPU Clock: 900MHz
  • Stream Processors: 1120
  • Multi-GPU: CrossFireX
  • Memory Size: 2048 MB
  • Memory Interface: 256BIT
  • Memory Type: GDDR5
  • Memory Clock: 4200MHz

The product falls in the more affordable high-range segment of the market, it comes with DirectX 11 support and a plethora of features. Connectivity wise you can hook it up to any HD television or monitor as it is packed with DisplayPorts, HDMI and DVI connectors, yes... you'll spot a total of five connectors on this single mid-range based product, not bad.

So judging from the reference clock frequencies and specifications, this literally boils down towards two R6870 cards placed onto one product. And admittedly we love that stuff. So we'll head over into the review, we'll cover a thing or two about BARTS based processors, have a closer look at the Club3D Radeon HD 6870 X2.

But not before you had a peek of the card of course ....
