Corsair Performance Pro 256GB SSD review

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by Eddy | Published: December 9, 2011

Corsair Performance Pro series SSD

You know, when Corsair initially sent out the press-release for the Performance Pro products as tested today, I figured with the Marvell controller and everything this is going to be a more mainstream SSD rather then an extreme performing one. Gosh was I wrong.

Hey everybody and yes, welcome to another SSD review. The market is changing and the dominance of SandForce based SSDs seems to decrease. OCZ for example just released a product with their proprietary Indilinx controller and a handful of companies started selling products based on that Marvell controller. And that's an interesting dynamic to witness in the technology channel alright.

It is for good reason though, SandForce royally screwed up with the 2000 series versus firmware issues. And I really do want to make very clear that all latest firmwares are stable, for any vendor. But that doesn't mean that the word isn't out and thus the reputation of that controller is simply dented, keeping potential consumers away. The rise and shine of the Crucial M4 series is the perfect example of that, people purchasing the 100% stable product albeit compromising a little on performance.

Corsair made a wise decision as well, they will not stick to just one SSD based controller, and as such they just launched the Performance Pro series SSDs. In 128GB and 256GB capacities these drives will be unleashed just before the Christmas season is starting.

Honestly, after I managed to do the first series of tests I was still a little flabbergasted, this SSD is incredible.

A complete hit, and with a lot of  people not trusting SandForce anymore (which we disagree with) this might be the next best SSD we have tested in a while. Have a peek, after which we'll dive into the technology behind it and obviously we'll present you a nice phat performance overview.
