 Enermax Infiniti 650W PSU review

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by Dave | Published: July 21, 2007

The Verdict

Enermax never ceases to amaze or for that matter disappoint me. Surely this PSU is not at all a 350 USD Galaxy 1KW DXX power supply. But if you have less money to spare this might be the next best thing.

Enermax is a company with passion for quality PSU's and it again shows. The one thing I disliked is the lack of a fourth PCI-Express graphics card connector. If you plan to build a system with two GeForce 8800 GTX cards in SLI that's an aesthetic issue. As you'll only have three connectors. You then have to use a 6-pin to Molex converter cable (delivered for free with these graphics cards) to connect the 4th connector. And while the PSU can handle it, it just looks pathetic.

Now since we are on the topic of 8800 GTX in SLI, we pushed the system close towards 550 Watts energy consumption. With that in mind I think that's pushing it a little close. So please opt for a higher rated PSU. Enermax has this model available in a 720 Watts version as well. But two 8800 GTS cards for example, well that'd be just fine and dandy.

So again, we are looking at an impressive, stable as a brick house PSU. It's in-audible, delivers good energy efficiency and has a bucket-load of safety features that are just notable. These PSU's have great build quality. I really like the new CoolGuard function. When you power down the PC the fans will remain activated until the PSU has reached a temperature that is considered to be safe, and then the fans will shut down.

The Enermax Infiniti 650 Watt did an excellent job throughout all our tests. Again in most scenarios this is a really fantastic PSU. The PSU is glorious and more than capable enough in many ways. I just love the modability of the cables as it cleans up the interior mess of your PC and will make it really nice and tidy. If you are in the high-end segment looking for a PSU, then the Infinity 650 can be a very good choice for you. Editor's choice.
