Enermax Revolution 85+ 1020W PSU review

Enermax Revolution 85+ 1020W

You know it's kind of funny and sad at the same time, like 3-4 years ago when we started seeing the first real good Kilowatt power supplies, we were all a little baffled. One Kilowatt... who needs that, right?

Now before you scream 'Kilowhaaatthefffff' and run away, hear me out...

These days a lot has changed, Kilowatt power supplies do not need to be found in the 'dirty' segment of the hardware public domain. Contrary, anyone with a spicy PC and a fairly high-end multi-GPU setup will at the very least have considered a power supply on steroids. See, we here at Guru3D.com like reserves, if we build a PC that could peak towards 700W, we'd probably recommend you to purchase a Kilowatt PSU for the sole reason that we feel you need to have some reserves. Stressing a PSU is in our eyes a little iffy. Also, future upgrades could effect your power demand, and we feel very strongly that you should not stress the PSU continuously. Next to that, PSUs are their most efficient at just roughly 50% stress.

Now as much as I dislike that we need colossal power supplies to help you feed that hungry PC of yours, we can't ignore the fact that we find them a little sexy as well. In the Kilowatt PSU segment over the years things improved a lot as well, modular cables configuration, nicely sleeved, far more advanced protection, they have actually become one of the most silent parts in a PC these days and of course, over time with a world yearning green, power supplies became more efficient.

Today we show you the perfect example of a near perfect power supply, Enermax recently released the Revolution 85+ series, this BEAST as I like to call it has everything I just mentioned. Modular cables, it's silent, sturdy, rugged and at 220 Volts this puppy can achieve a power efficiency of 87 to 91%, and that is just very noteworthy.

Anyway, have a quick peek at what we are testing today, after which we'll head into the review. It is going to be a daunting task to actually stress this power supply, but we'll give it our best shot. Next page please.
