HIS Radeon HD 5750 ICEQ+ review

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by John A. Johnsen | Published: January 11, 2010

The Verdict

I've already mentioned in our reference review that I like the Radeon HD 5750 series very much; you hardly can go wrong with it. This series is the first ever mid-range DX11 class product series that is actually affordable, comes with a great feature set, and is highly competitive performance wise.

HIS delivers some extra though, the customized cooler, blue PCB and inclusion of the full game title Colin McRAe Dirt 2 make this a really valuable product bundle. We expect to see this product for roughly 129~149 USD on the market. Added benefits are technology like the Eyefinity technology. Now I do not see you playing modern games on three monitors with this card as that might be a little overkill on the GPU, but if you'd stick to say 3x 1280x1024 it might be doable. It's an added 'free' feature, but very simplified ... if you like to work with three desktop monitors, well not many solutions will be cheaper than this one really.

The biggest culprit of the 5750 series is its memory bandwidth. AMD literally had to cut down something, else performance would be too high. So if you purchase a card and have a need for overclocking --  the memory is the golden nugget you are after. Extra bandwidth will help out greatly. As such overclocking overall with the HIS 5750 ICEQ+ was a grand experience. We started at 700 MHz, yet ended at 860 MHz on the core clock frequency (with no added additional voltage on the GPU). The memory behaved charmingly as well, at standard it's clocked at 1150, we easily lifted it towards 1380 MHz which is 5520 MHz effective (gDDR5). In total that added another 15% to 20% free performance to this product.

The bottom line: With the Radeon HIS Radeon 5750 ICEQ+ graphics card you receive a DX11 class compatible graphics card at a very fair price with a great bundle. If your monitor resolution does not exceed 1600x1200 then it offers plenty of performance for most current and modern games, and as such it offers real good value for money. The overclocking potential is grand and though the cooler did not bring massive performance improvements, it does make it look aesthetically very pleasing and keeps the product even when overclocked really quiet. Do not underestimate the power of this little monster.

Guru3D highly recommends this product, if it meets your budget requirements.
