POV GeForce GTX 460 768MB TGT Ultra Charged review

The Verdict

Well much to my surprise, this card ran absolutely beautiful. The high clocks had me a little worried at first. But even at its default 820 MHz the card remains very silent and levels at acceptable temperatures. Nice. Basically what POV did here was apply 1025 Millivolt in 3D mode allowing to card to keep it's clock so much higher and stable.

The end result is without doubt the fastest 768MB GTX 460 model your money can get you  ... but we need to discuss topic of money first though, see the Ultra Charted version as tested today in the shops cost 235 EUR and if you look around a little you'll notice that a regular GeForce GTX 460 768MB will cost you 160~170 EUR. So let's say that's an extra 50 EUR. We find that to be a lot for a mid-range segment card.

See any reference based 460 GTX 768MB without any added GPU voltage, will pass 800 MHz on the core clock frequency if you OC yourself. The memory will pass 2000 (4000 MHz effective as well) and when you accumulate and combine these factors you'll need to weigh out if that 50 EUR  price difference is worth it for you.

The flipside of that coin is that a lot of you guys purchase a pre-overclocked model as you do not want to overclock yourself and rest comfortable at night knowing that the warranty that comes with it covers that pre-overclock.

What about memory partitions you might wonder. Performance wise it remains difficult to justify an extra 256MB memory and 8 ROP clusters over the cheaper 768MB models. The difference is not huge but can definitely be measured. In the long run the extra 256MB memory however will be a much safer bet. Especially with upcoming DX11 titles, long shaders and huge textures might benefit from some more frame buffer.

The Point of View GeForce GTX Ultra Charged edition however is an awesome mid-range product that will play your games up-to 1600x1200, and in most cases 1920x1200 quite well. What keeps surprising us is the reference cooler on this 768MB model, it is just shockingly good - even at this nice big phat pre-overclock you can barely hear it. And that makes it an even more attractive purchase.

At this point in time we have tested over thirteen GTX 460 class graphics cards, this card once overclocked is as good as any card we tested, but at default the fastest 768MB model we have tested to date. A graphics card like this allows you to play any modern game with high image quality settings up-to 1600x1200 and in most scenarios 1920x1200 as well.

Pricing will be the foe of the TGT Ultra Charged edition from Point of View, you do gain a lot of extra performance, but you will pay top dollar for it. Other than that, don't hesitate to purchase it, it's a grand little card. Though not 100% certain currently some SKUs out there seem to come with a free game (coupon) as well, you'll receive 3 years warranty on the TGT cards. That should sweeten the deal a little.

Great stuff, a top pick ... give em a visit here.
