Scythe Ninja 3 CPU cooler review

By: Hilbert Hagedoorn Edited by George Panayiotou | Published: September 3, 2010

Final words and conclusion

Oh yeah, we like the Ninja 3, Scythe designed a cooler with some great looks and nice performance. The new organization of the aluminum fins allows, in cooperation with the eight U-shaped copper heatpipes, to show good numbers.

On top of that the cooler is equipped with a 120mm-ventilator that can be regulated with the help of an included fan-controller in RPM from up-to 1900 RPM with noise levels varying and that seems to work our really well. For some of you a fan controller located at the back of the PC might be a little bit of an annoyance, but we feel the majority does not care about that.

The fan regulation allows you to set the RPM levels to noise levels of your preference, and if you are in an overclock spree you can easily adjust and forfeit to higher noise levels for a tidbit by putting that fan controller to maximum.

Overall though, the fan and cooling seems to be a good balance in-between noise and performance. The numbers we spotted are right on par with performance to enthusiast class Heatpipe based cooling.

At one point though, you have to wonder, how many more and new updated models will be designed. Right now we see eight heatpipes and a complex aluminum fin heat dissipation design, where to go next ?

So we feel the Ninja 3 is an easy enough to install, good performancing and most of all nice looking cooler. It will have plenty of reserve for your overclocks and isn't noisy either. We like that and the fact it'll fit on any and all modern  AMD and Intel platforms.

The Ninja 3 is available in stores as we speak for roughly only 35 EUR or US$ 45.00, it is well worth the money if you are looking for a handsome, good performing CPU cooler. Definitely recommended and great value.
